The faculty adviser to College Republicans at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point says a recent event there did not violate a political fundraising ban.

Professor Justin Rueb said the group did not solicit or collect any money for Republican Scott Walker's gubernatorial campaign. He said students who were interested in donating were directed to Walker's Web site.

Rueb spoke one day after two Democratic lawmakers, Reps. Marlin Schneider and Amy Sue Vruwink, asked for an investigation into the Nov. 2 event.

The lawmakers said that based on news accounts, the event may have violated a state law that bans fundraising in state-owned buildings.

Rueb called the complaint a baseless attack on Walker, saying his group knows about the law and didn't violate it.
