MERRIMAC, Wis. (AP) -- It's a sign of spring much like the return of the robin.

The Merrimac ferry is once again shuttling motorists over the Wisconsin River on Highway 113 between Sauk and Columbia counties.

The Colsac Three is the only free ferry in Wisconsin.

It officially opened for the season yesterday.

It operates 24 hours a day until the river freezes again.
