At the start of Monday's school board meeting, members took a moment to give Denise Schuh some much-deserved recognition. The Wausau East senior was presented with the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
It honors her efforts to provide special computer software for students with vision problems.
She says one of her inspirations is her father, David Schuh, who's visually impaired, and he says he's very proud of her.
"She really wanted to make a difference in people's lives and these students. If you just saw the looks on their faces when they can type out a letter or read a book that they couldn't do before, it's great," comments David Schuh.
Denise is one of only two students in Wisconsin and 100 students nationwide to receive the award.
