Plow Budget Falling Short

Since the first of the year, Marathon County is $192,000 over its plowing budget.

Highway commissioner Glenn Speich says although they've tried to prepare for the weather, with the recent snow falls, that money is all dried up. Even so, they continue to plow.

"DOT has said put the level of service out there, so we're putting it out there," Speich says.

Whatever the county comes up short with, officials say they'll have to make up with it between now and July. That means cutting back summer maintenance like mowing, shoulder repairs, and possibly man power.

Those decisions will not be made until the end of April when the final budget numbers come in.
