We got a lot of new snow, but something else is keeping the snowmobile trails closed in Marathon County, open water.
County trail coordinator Dave Marg says the warmer conditions we've had the past couple of weeks have made the situation too dangerous to reopen the county's trail system.
"You can come around the corner and get your ski caught and hook an ice jam or something, flip the snowmobile, just drive right into the open water," said Marg. "You're driving situations, it's just too dangerous for us here."
If you are out on Marathon County's trails this weekend, you could face up to $1,000 in fines.
