The federal government will not give nearly $18 million in emergency funding to Wisconsin to help the combat chronic wasting disease.

President Bush made the announcement Tuesday during an economic forum in Texas.

The money was part of $5.5 billion recently approved by the Congress and the Senate for combatting terrorism. Bush says he won't release that money because Congress lumped in several unrelated projects.

The legislation would have provided nearly $15 million for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, two million for the Agricultural Research Service and one million for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It would have went for general research, containment, developing new detection tests and studies on how the fatal brain disease impacts human health.
