Attorney General's Punishment

Attorney Gen. Peg Lautenschlager is paying the state $3,250, the equivalent of ten days pay. It's part of her self-imposed punishment for a drunk-driving conviction last week.

Gov. Doyle says she violated more than the law when she was arrested. She also violated state policy.

"There are two very important issues here, one is the drunk driving, which I give her credit, she stood up, pled guilty and is going to take the punishment from the courts, but there's another very serious issue. She was driving a state vehicle.”

Doyle said Lautenschlager needs to hold herself to a higher standard than other state employees and suspending her pay is the first step to doing that.
