Republican Rep. Mark Green gave his take on what the president had to say. He said the speech gave reason for hope, and at the same time, not giving us a false sense of security.
"It was both optimistic and realistic," says Green. "Talked about how far we've come in these last few years. Beginning to stem the tide of the terrorist storm, to getting this economy moving, an economy he inherited that was veering into recession."
Democratic Senator Russ Feingold says, "We absolutely have to get the deficit and federal budget back under control, and we have to stop shipping good manufacturing jobs overseas."
Feingold also says Bush "was right to focus on fighting terrorism, but the war in Iraq has distracted us from that mission in several important ways."
