The sheriff's deputy who responded to the house where three sisters apparently suffocated in a chest says the look in the mother's eyes was devastating.
The report Clark County Sheriff's Deputy Greg Herrick wrote about the incident was released Tuesday.
He says when he pulled up, the mother, Shirley Oberholtzer, was in the yard waving him in. She was yelling, "My girls, my girls, I think they're dead."
The sheriff's department says the girls -- ages two, four and six -- were playing upstairs when they locked themselves in the chest at their Unity farm Monday.
Authorities say Oberholtzer was doing chores with her two older daughters. The family also has a son.
They soon noticed the younger girls were missing. The younger girls weren't breathing when they found them.
Herrick says two girls were lying side by side and another girl was alone.
Sheriff Louis Rosandich says the home-made chest, which is about three feet long and two and a half feet deep, can only be opened from the outside.
Autopsies results are expected late Tuesday or Wednesday.
