For many this time of year is the season of giving, but for some it's the season of taking.

Cars full of Christmas presents are a prime target for thieves during the holidays.

According to the Wausau Police Department, roughly 20 cars have been broken into already this holiday season.

That's far above the average of two or three break-ins a week.

"It must be something nice if you put wrapping on it," said Bill Brandimore, Wausau Police Chief, "People will break your windows and open your doors and take your packages and take off."

Brandimore says disguising packages and other valuables in your car are important. If you have a trunk to put them in, that works, otherwise cover them with a blanket.
