UWSP students are connecting with the community..by volunteering.

Students in the SERVE Program logged about 62-hundred hours of community service last school year.

SERVE stands for Students Engaged in Rewarding Volunteer Experiences.

The Supervisor of the program, Shannon Williams, says volunteering now.. will help them in the future.

"Most of the students aren't from here and live here 8 months a year we want them to feel connected to the community and understand the community the live in. We also think it's important for students to learn to be good citizens in college they know how to be active citizens"

Williams says about 16 hundred students participate in the program every year.

She says it's so popular... there is often a list of students waiting to participate.
