Health experts recommend avoiding the outdoors in the extreme heat.

Judy Burrows with the Marathon County Health Department says when the temperature is above 90 degrees it forces your heart and lungs to work harder.

That's when you are at risk for heat exhaustion or more seriously.... heat stroke.

She suggests going somewhere cool and drinking plenty of water.

"When you are not able to be in the air conditioning it is important to drink lots of water and avoid strenuous activity."

She says if you have to be outside for work avoid wearing dark colored clothes and try adjusting your work schedule.

She suggests doing the more strenuous part of your work earlier in the day before the temperatures hit their peak.
