Work on $11 million worth of work on I-39 between Highway 34 and Rothschild is scheduled to begin Monday.

Governor Jim Doyle signed the contract to improve 9.1 miles of the interestate between Highway 34 and the Rothschild Business 51 interchange in Marathon County.

The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

American Asphalt of Mosinee is the prime contractor of the project. Crews will repave I-39 with new asphalt.

During the work, I-39 will remain open to traffic, but lanes will be closed during the week.

The project is scheduled for completion in July 2010.

This road should have been paid for with the high gas tax we pay here in wisconsin.Where is that money going? We the tax payers that live here are gettint ripped off. It seems all Madison cares about is Milwaukee an not the rest of the state. When is Hwy.51 going to be done between Hwy.8 an Hwy. D going to be made into 4 lanes. It seems that with all the taxes we pay here in central an northern Wisconsin is spent on Milwaukee. An the rest is wasted in Madison. Where we need roads an bridges we don't get them. Like the road an bridge that was to be put in on Hwy.O across the Rib River in the year 2000.The gas tax has been used for everything but roads.Lets put up toll booths at the state lines an charge out of state people to use our roads like they do to us.I'm sick of paying for roads that out of staters use free.
