State Senator Gary George is off the ballot in the Democratic primary for governor.
The state Elections Board voted seven-to-one to remove the Milwaukee Democrat at a meeting Wednesday. Board member John Savage was the lone dissenter.
A review by several county district attorneys and the Election Board staff found that at least 231 signatures that had been counted were invalid. Another 79 signatures had only a first name or an illegible name.
The board had to decide whether the reports from three district attorneys could be considered clear and convincing evidence.
The Milwaukee County district attorney's office amended its report Wednesday morning, increasing the number of valid signatures by 10.
Earlier Wednesday, Elections Board Director Kevin Kennedy recommended that George be removed from the primary ballot. Kennedy said he didn't have the necessary two thousand signatures.
A 21-year-old UW Madison student named Daniel McMurray challenged the Milwaukee Democrat's nomination papers earlier in July.
The senator has denied any wrongdoing by his campaign staffers.
