Primary and general election dates for Price County Sheriff have been set, after papers recalling Sheriff Wallace Krenzke were certified Monday.

The primary election will be July 28th and the recall election will be August 25th, according to the County Clerk.

Concerned citizens began gathering signatures to recall Krenzke over concerns about the way a missing persons search was conducted in March. You can find our initial investigation into that search here.

According to the County Clerk, 3 people have filed a declaration of candidacy so far. They include Democrat Ronald Kardas, who is a member of the Price County Board of Supervisors, Democrat Richard Heitkemper, who served 3 terms as Price County Sheriff from 1995-2000, and Republican Brian Schmidt, who has been a deputy with the Sheriff's Department for 20 years and also serves as Prentice Village President. Krenzke’s name will automatically be included on the ballot.

Anyone wishing to be on the ballot has until June 30th to file a declaration of candidacy and obtain 200 signatures.

Good luck to those brave persons who have decided to challenge Krenzke. It will be really interesting to watch and see if Wally retaliates against Deputy Schmidt, which i'm sure he will, in one shape or another. Wally is vindictive and taking improper action against an honest and hard working veteren deputy is something he is fully capable of. Good luck to those running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
