Stable Hands Looking to Grow after Community Shows High Demand for Alternative Therapy Program

Demand for an alternative therapy program in Merrill has become so great, the non-profit is now looking to expand.

Stable Hands in Merrill offers therapeutic riding to Northcentral Wisconsin children with special needs.

It’s the only program of its kind in a hundred mile radius.

The organization has served hundreds of children with everything from deafness to spina bifida.

But since they opened their doors in 1992, they have operated on borrowed facilities.

So now, they’re hoping to raise enough money to build their own facility.

People who have gone through the program will tell you it is a worthy cause to help. They say horses really can help children with special needs grow.

"The exercises we do really help me a lot,” said Nick Baumann, who has been riding at Stable Hands since he was four. “I have cerebral palsy in my legs. It's just in my legs so they help with my muscles in my legs and strengthening, core training muscles."
