Wisconsin Bishop Appointed Archbishop of St. Louis

North Central Wisconsin residents may be familiar with Raymond Burke. He's headed the La Crosse Diocese for the past nine years, which covers a large part of our area.

Father Bill Grevatch is with St. Michael's in Wausau. He says he thinks Bishop Burke will be a good fit in St. Louis, and he leaves behind a great legacy.

"Well, I think Bishop Burke certainly encouraged catholic education for our young people, very supportive of Catholic schools. He encouraged collaboration among the parish communities, he did this right in the Wausau area."

And even as catholic schools face diminishing budgets, bishop burke says he's ready for the challenge.

"But we are filled with hope. We don't see it as a challenge, we see it as an opportunity to do something very important for our children and people."

The pope have not yet picked Burke's successor for the La Crosse Diocese. He's expected to in the next couple months. Burke will be installed as archbishop on January 26.
