There's a new scam which involves a caller informing you that you've won money from either the Canadian lottery or Publisher's Clearinghouse, but before you can claim your prize, you have to send them money.
Lt. Bryan Hilts of the Wausau Police Department says, "Whenever you win money, you usually don't have to pay money to get your prize, so that should always set off a red flag."
Hilts says many victims don't report these types of crime because they're too embarrassed. If you get called about this scam, hang up immediately and call your local police or sheriff's department.
