MILWAUKEE (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle is going home empty-handed — again.

The governor kicked off Wisconsin's fishing season Saturday on the Chippewa Flowage near Hayward in northern Wisconsin.

Spokesman Tim Stumm says he fished for an hour and a half to two hours but had no luck.

Stumm says it "was a beautiful day, nice weather but the fish just weren't biting."

Doyle caught a northern pike during his first opener in 2003 on Lake Namakagon in Cable. But he has been unsuccessful since then.

Still, he's one fish a head of former Gov. Tommy Thompson, who came up empty-handed in 14 openers.

Have the Governer fish with me. My son thinks it would be impossible to not catch a fish. He filled my limit today. He is 10 and if he was not well trained, the only thing he would need to do is real them in. Troll some crank baits.
