License sales for gun deer hunting are up 27 percent from 2002. Archery licenses are up 14 percent. The scare of chronic wasting disease is down in Marathon County, and DNR officials say that's bringing hunters back.

If you do spot a deer that seems ill, take action.

"If you see a deer that looks sick we do encourage hunters to shoot those deer we like to have them for testing," says DNR wilderness biologist Rick Weide.

Licenses must be purchased before the start of deer season, by November 21st. The nine-day gun season opens November 22.
