The leaders say they want to provide a one-day forum for priests to discuss the issues that affect their lives and ministries. The meeting is scheduled for September 18.
The Reverend William Burkert is pastor of St. Roman Church and one of the meeting's organizers. He says the meeting is not being called to oppose Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan.
Both Dolan and Auxiliary Bishop Richard Sklba are among the more than 400 priests who are invited.
The letter inviting the priests says the meeting also will help the priests determine if they should form an Alliance of Archdiocesan Priests.
