Educating the public about the dangers of diabetes is the goal of a workshop held at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield Saturday.
On hand was former Miss America, Nicole Johnson. Johnson was diagnosed with the disease at age 19 and says it was a scary experience, because she didn't know what to expect.
Now, she's telling her story to help those who feel the same way she did.
"I didn't have a clue what this disease was, no family history, it just hit out of the blue," said Johnson. "At that moment on I really resolved to use my experience to educate other people."
This was the tenth year for the event.
