Local Farmers Get Federal Assistance

Hundreds of Wisconsin residents driven off the farm will soon be getting some federal aid. Tuesday U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao announced a $1.2 million grant to help more than 400 displaced farmers in Wisconsin.

The money will go to dozens of different job centers in the state where farmers can get training for new careers. U.S. Department of Labor secretary Elaine Chao spoke with Newschannel Seven Tuesday.

“We are of course concerned about the plight of farmers. It's been a tough summer in so many areas, but what we want to do more than anything is be a resource to farmers."
