The Marathon County Board will approve its 2004 budget in less than a month, but some proposed cuts aren't sitting well with board members.
Start Right, a social services program to help young families, is one that may suffer.
Marathon County administrator Mort McBain says, “For next year's budget we've proposed a $250,000 reduction to the Start Right program. The county board may want to put some or all of that back.”
Board members say that's what they hope to do.
“I tend to support the Start Right program being left in tact. It's already had some serious trimming down. I think there's a lot of sentiment toward that program being saved.”
The final vote on the county budget is scheduled for November 13.
