VIROQUA, Wis. (AP) -- Vernon County says it needs $11 million to repair dams that were damaged by significant flooding in the last two years.

County Board Finance chairman Brian Richardson says of its 22 dams, 21 are leaking and jeopardizing those that live below the structures.

State Department of Natural Resources dams and floodplains chief Meg Galloway says the dams have been stabilized, but they can't predict when the next flood will be.

State Representative Lee Nerison of Westby says he's working to get federal stimulus money to help with repairs. Nerison says another alternative is tapping the state's Stewardship Fund, used for land conservation.

Governor Doyle said last month there will be an unspecified amount of federal stimulus money for dam repairs and improvements.
