Once law enforcement officers suit up for duty, they face challenges every single day.
No matter what their assignment, they have to be ready for any type of situation.
Our Grace Under Pressure series continues with a day in the life of one of the newest police officers to hit the streets of Wausau.
Officer Jon Kindlarski, only been on the job in Wausau for about 6 months but he is no rookie when it comes to law enforcement.
"I worked with the Vilas County Sheriff's Department, I spent 5 1/2 years as a Deputy Sheriff, after which I was promoted and spent 6 years as a Detective Sergeant"
He describes himself as a people person. That's the part of his job he enjoys the most, the people.
"I get to meet different people everyday sometimes it's under stressful situations sometimes it's a more relaxed environment certainly you have to be a people person to enjoy this job, that's who we serve is the public, and it just wouldn't be as much fun as if you could talk to people," says Officer Kindlarski.
He also has a sense of humor about how police officers are perceived.
"I love doughnuts, doughnuts are great... but this job is very physical at times and I couldn't do my job properly if I wasn't in good shape."
As a part of his traffic enforcement duties, he responds to car accidents and writes traffic tickets.
When you see those red and blue lights in your rear view mirror, Officer Kindlarski says don't take it personally.
He's not pulling you over to be mean, he sees a traffic stop as an opportunity to correct a driver's behavior and a citation a tool he uses to keep the roads safe.
"It's not a situation where we want to make someone's day miserable actually we want to improve people's behavior to make it a safer place to live in," says Officer Kindlarski.
Some days he may break away from his traffic duties to provide back up for other officers.
That's just what happened when the R-Store was robbed on Tuesday.
"One of my responsibilities was to go and look for the suspect what we do is canvas the neighborhood and set up a grid situation and identify where that person may have gone," says Officer Kindlarski.
His days may begin with car accidents, traffic tickets and the occasional robbery, but Officer Kindlarski tries to end each day with a smile.
"I do try and help people with their problems, and I don't have all the answers but I can take what the law says and apply that fairly and try and make things better."
