In a demonstration at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 434 Training Center in Mosinee Tuesday, contractors and insurance adjustors witnessed an impressive demonstration.
The demonstration showed how quickly a sprinkler can be activated to put out a small fire when a curtain is set a flame. In 30 to 90 seconds, the sprinkler head gets hot enough to react, shooting out 8-14 gallons of water a minute.
In Wisconsin, plumbers are certified to install home sprinkler systems using your existing water source. If sprinklers are installed during home construction they typically cost about 1 to 1.5 percent of the home's price. They can usually save homeowners 20 percent on insurance.
