Many area corn producers may be in trouble if North Central Wisconsin doesn't get some much-needed rain.

According to Marathon County's dairy agent, grain crops are about two weeks behind schedule.

He says this is the fourth summer in a row the area's rainfall level is below average.

"When you need moisture it's always, it's always welcome. Whenever we can get a good soaking rain, we'll take it," said Mike Wildeck.

To make sure producers put money in the bank, many whose grain crops are hurting, will try to salvage it as silage.

He says because of this there will be lots of corn silage this season.

Another risk to crop damage is the chance of an early frost. Wildeck says many farmers are keeping their fingers crossed that won't be the case this year.
