MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Democrat Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain by 11 points in Wisconsin based on a new poll.

The Quinnipiac University poll released on Thursday shows that 50% of likely voters say they will vote for Obama, a senator from Illinois. Just 39% say they will vote for McCain, a senator from Arizona.

The poll of 1,094 people was conducted between July 14 and Tuesday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

A previous poll done last month also by the university in Connecticut found Obama with a 13-point lead over McCain in Wisconsin.

The state narrowly voted for Democratic presidential candidates in both 2000 and 2004, putting it on a short list of states viewed as winnable by both sides.
