The state attorney general is asking the governor to authorize a legal challenge to new regulations by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Peg Lautenschlager says the new rules loosen standards for companies that are undergoing renovations. She says she fears the pollution coming from nearby states will make it tougher for Wisconsin to meet federal air quality standards.

"Most of the pollution coming into this state is coming in literally from other states where compliance is not as well enforced, maybe, as it is here in Wisconsin," Lautenschlager said. " I don't think that Wisconsin should have to suffer, simply because other states are causing pollution to our air."

Twelve other states have already filed legal challenges.
