Portage County sheriff's deputies say the shot that killed Travis Mills was accidentally self inflicted.

Authorities say the 27-year-old Mills suffered the wound in a car in Almond on Saturday. He was found unresponsive about three hours later when the car was pulled over by police in Stevens Point. Mills was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Two other people in the car were jailed after the incident. 28-year old Troy Sullivan, another passenger, was taken into custody on a probation hold from Portage County.

The driver, 46-year old Adrien Facundo, was accused of drunk driving and was also taken into custody on an outstanding warrent.

Authorities say the gun used was a small caliber.

They say they're still investigating the actions of Facundo and Sullivan after the shooting and will forward their findings to the district attorney for possible charges.

what happened to Todd Cummings? I saw the inscription on his marker the other day, became curious, and was google searching and found this comment? Or can you direct me to any links with more regarding Todd's death? Thanks!

I don't buy the "self inflected" statement!! I'm afraid this may be another situation like Todd Cummings a few years ago. Its easier and cheaper to say "self inflected" especially when the victim has been in trouble with the law. The family isn't flushed with money to force an investigation and the victim's name isn't a "well known" one. Just remember he was someone's son and grandson. You may not agree with or condon their actions but you can't help but love them. They are your flesh and blood.

It doesn't matter if he looks like a winner or not. He still was somebodies son and I'm sure his mother loved him with everything inside of her. Who are we to judge? If anyone who knew Travis is reading this, I'm so sorry for your loss.
