White Lake School District has shortened their school year by 10 days to cut back on costs of heat, bus transportation and meals. To make up for the time, their students are in class 23 minutes more each day.
The school's superintendent, Peter Kososki, says the plan will save the school up to $25,000 this year on those previously mentioned costs. That's important for a district that needs to trim around $65,000 from this year's budget.
So while the plan isn't the entire answer, it's a good start. And Kososki says this will save some programs from being cut, and may even save them from being shut down.
