As the number of military reserve units being activated grows, speculation about whether the U.S. will go to war with Iraq is also increasing.
Political scientists in Northcentral Wisconsin say war with Iraq seems likely, although the UN has not given its approval of military action.
"They will be retarding force on these efforts," said UW Marathon Professor Jeff Leigh, who teaches an American History class. "[But] I would be concerned that he will act without the UN."
Leigh says Bush seems to be a more unilateral
"He may have gone out a little too far on the limb." Professor Angie Burger, who teaches a course in Global Crises said. "At this point he can't backtrack. I think if the U.S. is bluffing, Sadaam has called the bluff, and that we have to go in, because if we didn't do it here, our respect is lost forever."
