    DNR Investigating Boat Explosion in Waupaca County Save Email Print

    Authorities in Fremont say they were dispatched Thursday to a call of a boat that had exploded on the Wolf River near the Wolf Ridge Cottages.

    They say the two people on the boat were picked up by a passing boater and immediately taken to shore.

    The driver of the boat was a 22-year-old West Bend man and the passenger a 24-year-old Australian. Both received burns from the explosion. They were transported to Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

    The two men told authorities they were going north on the Wolf River when their ski boat started to lose power. After losing power, they told police the engine cover blew off and the boat was engulfed in flames. What caused that to happen remains under investigation.
