Badger State Games Take Financial Hit

More than 90 percent of the athletes at the Badger State Games don't need snow to compete. Still, the dry winter Northcentral Wisconsin has experienced so far, has forced organizers to cancel several events, and lose out on the money people would have paid to participate in them.

"I know they definitely felt it with the registration fees from those 2,000 plus people." Shannon Mayerl, with the Games' marketing department said. "We definitely saw the effects of the athletes t-shirts, because they didn't need about 2,000 to 2,500 t-shirts."

This is the 15th year athletes have gathered in Wausau and Central Wisconsin. Despite the cancellation of the Quadrathalon, cross-country skiing and snowshoe racing, more than 4,000 people are registered to compete in the games this year. Extended Web Coverage
