UPDATE: Oneida Co. Sheriff's Office Mourns Loss of Fire Victim

UPDATE: 2/14 at 9:23 a.m.

Oneida Co. Sheriff Grady Hartman stated “We are deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden loss of Kaye and her husband Mark. All of the employee’s in the Sheriff’s Office value and honor all of those who have served us in the public safety community and our thoughts and prayers will remain with Kaye and Mark and their families and many friends”.

Kaye Juel started her career in the Sheriff’s office in 1983 and she was promoted to the position of Jail Administrator by Sheriff Charles Crofoot in 1994.

UPDATE: 2/13 at 12:45 p.m.

Based on forensic autopsies the two human remains have been identified as: Kaye M. Juel, age 53 and Mark J. Juel, age 55 of 4623 Partridge Lane, Harshaw, Wisconsin.

The fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal, Town of Cassian Fire Department, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office.

UPDATE 2/12 at 6:49 p.m.

Authorities have found two bodies in the ruins of a large house destroyed by fire in rural Oneida County.

Crews were called just before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to the house about 20 miles west of Rhinelander. When firefighters arrived, they found the house engulfed in flames.

Sheriff's Lt. Lloyd Gauthier says authorities believe the couple who lived at the home may have died in the fire. Their vehicles were found in the garage, but the husband and wife could not be found.

During their investigation, authorities found two human remains in the house. Autopsies are being scheduled.

The state fire marshal's office is helping local authorities investigate.
