It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for some to get up close to a staple of Wisconsin -- the dairy cow.

More than 300 fourth graders from Marshfield and Greenwood school districts got a chance to see what actually happens on a dairy farm through the Annual Food for America program.

Students toured 16 different stations at Norm-E-Lane Farms in Chili that explained everything from care of the cows to the milking process as well as the chance to experience a baby calf being born.

Mark Zee, Marshfield FFA Advisor, says, "When you talk to the kids and interact with them this is the first time they've been on a farm and again they get to see a large farm. First time getting up close to a cow and seeing the size of the equipment that they till the fields with."

Teachers say this is a great opportunity for students to learn about a major Wisconsin industry that has a large impact on the economy.
