MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Governor Jim Doyle and lawmakers aren't giving out any details, but they could be closing in on a deal to solve a $527 million budget shortfall.
Leaders of both the Senate and Assembly are telling lawmakers to keep their schedules clear to be in session next Tuesday through Thursday.
Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker's spokeswoman Carrie Lynch says talks are progressing well.
No details about what might be in the deal have been released by anyone involved in the negotiations.
Talks among leaders of both houses intensified in the past two days as they tried to come up with a deal Doyle would sign.
Budget talks have taken on a greater urgency because up to $260 million in bids for summer road projects are scheduled to be let Tuesday. Doyle has said failure to get a budget deal would delay that work.
