MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Another Republican legislator has decided to quit.

Rep. Sheryl Albers of Reedsburg says she's having problems with her left leg, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament and plans to have surgery at the end of May. She says she won't be able to campaign for this fall's elections.

Four other Assembly Republicans have announced they won't run again this fall. Three Assembly Democrats also have declared they won't run again. A fourth Assembly Democrat, Sheldon Wasserman of Milwaukee, will leave his seat to run for the state Senate.

The GOP currently holds a 52-47 majority in the Assembly. Democrats have made regaining control of the chamber one of their top goals in the fall election. Losing five Republicans to retirement makes achieving it that much easier for them.

Albers, 53, is chairwoman of the Assembly Committee on Elections and Constitutional Law. She says she plans to work as an attorney.
