Aaron Harvath, the man arrested the day of the murder, has now been officially charged with shooting Dirk Wolf with the intent to kill him.
Harvath appeared from the Portage County Jail through a live video feed in court today to listen to the complaint filed against him. He acknowledged he'd read the complaint and understood the charge against him.
According to the complaint, the Stevens Point Police Department received two cell phone calls last Wednesday. The callers told them a man had been shot at the intersection of Division and Park.
One witness in the complaint says a man running away from the murder scene approached his vehicle and pointed a gun at him trying to get him to stop, the witness swerved away from the attacker. The state will try to prove that attacker was Harvath running away from the crime scene.
The District Attorney says local police have really kept this case moving.
"They've been very thorough, worked cooperatively with the other law enforcement agencies in the area," says Tom Eagon, District Attorney for Portage County.
Harvath's scheduled to appear next Friday for a preliminary hearing. That's where a judge will decide if the state has enough evidence to continue with a trial.
Another man, Dean Choate, is also charged with obstructing police while they were investigating this murder. Choate's currently out on bail.
