EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- An Eau Claire kayaker has been rescued from the Chippewa River.

Eau Claire Fire & Rescue says Chad Bernard's kayak overturned (yesterday) near the city's maintenance building, and its fire and rescue team found him stuck in a current.

A rescuer, who was tied to a rope, swam out to the kayaker. He grabbed the man and both were pulled to shore.

Bernard was transferred by ambulance to Luther Hospital, where he was treated for moderate hypothermia.

Bernard told rescuers that he hit a rock, which caused him to turn sideways, and the current turned him over.
