Setting Up

Lots of volunteers have been pouring themselves into the preparations here.

All you have to do is take a look around and see how much has been set up in the football field. It's no wonder the organizers say this is more of a party than anything else.

Several hours before the opening ceremonies kick off Thursday night, dozens of volunteers were setting up stages, lights and speakers for an event that rivals most rock concerts.

"We've got a jumbo-tron appearance by Packer Tony Fischer, Gov. Doyle, the attorney general and the UW marching band will be here, so you've got to come on down and join the fun," said Kelly Kloepping, Special Olympics Director of Communications.

Along with the activities, there will be plenty of games, concessions, even a dance Friday night, and to pull it all off, these volunteers will need some more help.

If you'd like to chip in, the organizers say they'd be happy to have you. Just show up Friday morning at the main tent behind the Quandt Field House on the UWSP campus.

The organizers promise they won't work you too hard. The efforts really will be going to a good cause.
