Women who hunt, say the idea that hunting is a sport for men only is way off target.
More than 45,000 women took part in gun-deer season last year. Many say they enjoy bringing their kids along with them.
One local mother says hunting has been a family activity for as long as she can remember.
"It was a time for me to spend with my mom and dad," Sona Branter said, "one on one, where a lot of the times during the year, you're busy, you're running, you're going.
"My family always had the time together, and they stressed to me, it's not the actual trophy that's the reward," Brantner said, "That's a bonus, but they taught me that you need to enjoy the environment itself, to enjoy the outdoors. Relax. That's your time to take and focus on you."
About seven percent of the people that took part in last year's gun-deer hunt were women.
