A large number of cattle appear to have been killed in a barn fire in the town of Brighton Monday.
Crews were out all day trying to get an accurate count of the dead livestock. The Spencer Fire Chief says they were called out to the scene at around 7:30 a.m.
He says with the strong wind, the flames spread quickly. He says many animals never had a chance to get out of the main building, but most made it out of the south wing.
He says the fire started in the milk house, but he's not sure how. No people were hurt in the fire, and some nearby mobile homes were saved.
Crews are trying to save a $200,000 milk parlor.
