A dozen local young artists are proving, you can help those in need at any age.
This Saturday, a Merrill clothing store will turn into an art gallery. Trinity Lutheran students ages 4-7 will put their artwork up for sale to raise money for the hungry. It's part of the exhibition fundraiser, “Art from the Heart”, at Thelma's & The Guy's Shop.
"All of the money donated that day comes directly here to the the Trinity Open Heart Food Pantry, which serves the entire community," said parent organizer Karli Severt. "The girls, and then there's one boy, they bring all of their art, we set up a gallery and we just ask [the public] to make a donation, a freewill donation. We don't put a price on it."
Severt says the event also teaches the kids the importance of giving back to their community.
"They first start out by touring the food pantry and hearing about how much need there is in the community," Severt said. "And we really try to make a connection with them. They're turning their artwork into food for needy families."
The event will be held Saturday, December 1 from 2-4 pm. The store is located at 1025 E. Main St. Hundreds of pieces of artwork will be on display, and the public is also welcome to donate non-perishable food items.
