Next year about 1,200 students in the Wausau School District will use an iPad for their daily lessons.
It's a pilot program designed to increase student engagement, learning and achievement.
The iPads will be issued to kindergarten through 5th grade students at Franklin Elementary, as well as all 8th graders.
The district's director of secondary education says the electronic tablets are fitting for the digital generation, and when used have been proven to accelerate student achievement.
"To them it's been with them since day one, it's how they communicate with each other, it's how they learn best and what we wanna do is take a look at that type of learning and bring it into the classroom," Thom Hahn said.
Hahn says the new tablets will cost between $850,000 and $870,000.
If the pilot program is successful, all students will eventually get an iPad.
