The Wausau East marching band will be ready to dazzle a crowd after summer band camp is finished.
The lumberjacks are already hard at work, preparing for upcoming performances. Summer band camp is a chance for students to brush up on their musical skills, perfect their march, and make lasting memories.
"It's really fun, we have a great time, it's like family bonding," said Lauren Lange, a senior. "Band is always really fun."
This year the marching band is under new direction. Rob Perkins spent nine years teaching in Cuba City, and hopes to bring energy to the group.
Perkins wants to schedule more performances to show off what the kids are capable of, which he says is a lot.
"If they're gonna do this every day for me like they did today we're gonna have a great experience," Perkins said. "These are wonderful kids, they're willing to work hard. "
Camp consists of band room practice and then heading outdoors to practice marching.
After this week's camp, the band will get together again at the end of July.
Their first performance will be at a parade in Athens on Aug. 19th. They'll also perform at the Wausau East home game opener at the end of August.
