Wausau Students Love to Read Using Electronic Readers

Updated: Wed 6:59 PM, Dec 19, 2012

A pilot program using Nook electronic readers in the classroom is proving to be successful with students at Riverview Elementary School in Wausau.

2nd and 5th grade students are learning just how fun technology can be.

Thanks to a grant written by their teachers, Laura Witt and Carrie Adams, students have access to the Nook readers each school day.

They're incorporated into the reading curriculum, and students can't seem to get enough.

"I think it's really easy to just hold the Nook and flip the pages, it's a lot easier than turning the pages in a book because you might lose your page," said Max Liss-'s-Gravemade, a 5th grader.

Addy Palecek, also in the 5th grade, especially likes the built-in dictionary.

"Sometimes I don't understand words in books and it helps me understand the book if I know what the words mean."

Both classes received 25 Nooks, which will stay in the classroom, so future classes can use them too.
