Part of Governor Scott Walker’s budget includes additional money for the 26 universities and colleges in the UW System. The focus of the $181 Million funding is to turn out graduates primed for high demand professions.
UW-Marathon County Campus Dean, Keith Montgomery, says its welcomed funding that might help locally.
“I think this funding is a strategic investment in education and provides funding and flexibility so that we can make decisions that make sense for us.”
The $181 million will make up much but not all of the $315 million in cuts that universities took during the current budget.
This increase reverses a trend in which State funding of universities had taken a back seat to the money going to prisons.
