The walls of Merrill High School have an extra special touch on them: colorful murals painted by a select group of students.

It's part of the Summer Honors Art Mural Program. This year's group of 12 muralists finished the paintings in mid-June after spending two weeks and over 80 hours on them.

"I found it very inspiring to do a mural because I've been here every year watching them being done, and it's kind of a shocker to actually be doing one for once" says muralist Annie DeBroux.

At the end of the summer almost 100 murals will grace the school's walls -- all of them painted over the past eight years.

"It's fun being here with the students because they are so motivated when they come in," says Merrill High School art teacher Linda DeBroux.

The school is still looking for sponsors to help with framing the murals. $400 sponsors one mural and $200 sponsors half a mural. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact Linda DeBroux at 536-2559 or Jean English at 536-8628 for more information.
